PHOTO MURAL BACKDROPS

We'll show you how we added four backdrops to a large model railroad. We'll install a small heavily wooded backdrop. Tackle a much larger backdrop, and Bas-Relief buildings will be added to blend in that backdrop!
We’ll remove an old paper backdrop. Hire an artist friend to sculp rocks & paint small trees and shrubs on our scene with a palette knife. We will show you how to blend the scene with real model trees and shrubs. We'll add many "half" trees and shrubs to blend in our flat scenery to the mural.

SCRATCH BUILDING STRUCTURES

We’ll show you how to build four structures from scratch. (1) A small boiler house (2) Offices attached to a roundhouse that house the shop foreman and include great detail (3) A repair facility with complete interior detail, including lighting, an interesting removable roof, and a small lean-to attached to one side.
Building also includes some rather interesting window arrangements (4) A passenger and freight station which is built as if it were sliced down the middle.

THE RIO GRANDE SOUTHERN-MODELING THE PROTOTYPE

Probably one of the most modeled narrow gauge railroads in the U.S. is the Rio Grande Southern. Green Frog brings you this fine combination of modeling and prototype featuring the On3 layout of Duane Danielson, pictures from the collection of Mallory Hope Ferrell, and video of today’s RGS right of way from Green Frog.
Learn how to build some of the best looking evergreen trees you’ve ever seen! Coupled with prototype shots, you’ll see why the Rio Grande Southern makes such a fine railroad to model.

STEAM OPERATED SAWMILL

The state of Oregon hosts one of the very last steam operated sawmill in the United States. This huge complex is served by a standard gauge railroad, itself operating vintage GP-9 diesels.
We’ll take you on a tour of the workings of the sawmill, inside and out. We’ll follow the logs from delivery, to the mill pond, to debarking, sawing, edging, sorting, and finished goods.
We’ll even take you into the boiler house where you’ll witness a by-gone era of steam boilers built around the turn of the century. If you are interested in or model the logging industry you won’t want to miss this fantastic video.

4 Narrow Gauge Layouts

Some of the finest narrow gauge layouts are being built in the Pacific Northwest. In this video, Green Frog brings you four beautiful finished layouts of well known modelers Paul Scoles, Dave Woodrell, Jim Noonan, and Bill Busacca.
Paul Scoles’ freelance layout features incredible Sn3 railroading in the Pacific Northwest. Dave Woodrell’s Sn3 layout shows us the Rio Grande Southern as it appeared in the late 30’s from Ridgeway to Rico.
Jim Noonan’s modeling shows us the Rio Grande Southern in HOn3 from Ridgeway to Telluride. And finally, Bill Busacca’s HOn3 operating layout features the Rio Grande Southern town of Dolores, Colorado in the 40’s.

Green Frog captured these layouts as if they were filmed in real life. Authentic real locomotive sounds are heard as we follow these trains up and down their respective lines. Professional narration describes the modelers work and the locations that have been modeled.
