NS vol1...
Norfolk Southern’s Georgia Division 148 Mainline from Atlanta to Chattanooga is one of the south’s busiest, yet it remains unknown to most railfans. Come with Green Frog as we explore the single-track line well hidden in the forested mountains of North Georgia.

We’ll start in Atlanta’s Inman Yard, crossroads of the system and home to NS’s biggest intermodel terminal. From here trains are dispatched to the Northeast, the Carolinas, Florida, New Orleans, Birmingham, and Chattanooga.

See auto racks, double stacks, piggybacks, and Roadrailers race across this hill-and-dale mainline. Watch long manifests and heavy coal trains from Appalachia and Wyoming behind Dash 9-40CW’s and SD70’s slog up the long Braswell Mountain grade, often using radio-controlled mid-train helpers.

Run-through power from Union Pacific, Conrail, Kansas City Southern, and Southern Pacific are frequent sights. Our tour ends at Debutts Yard in Chattanooga, also site of a major engine shop where NS readies its newest power for service..

NS vol2...
Follow Green Frog’s cameras as they track down the NS on our second action filled Norfolk Southern video. Volume 2 covers the action between Debutts Yard in Chattanooga to the crew change point at Oakdale.
In between you’ll follow spectacular action, including train meets... as well as the diversity of locomotive power so akin to the Norfolk Southern.
The train action on the steep grades, sharp curves and the heavily wooded scenery make this NS video a “Must Have”.

Approx. 60 Minutes Dolby Digital-5.1 surround sound

NS vol3...
The fast-paced action continues as Green Frog’s cameras take you deeper into Norfolk Southern’s throbbing Rathole line from Oakdale, Tennessee, to Somerset, Kentucky.
Watch trains highball over the busy track, through spectacular deep cuts dug in the early 1960’s. some now being widened for doubletracking.
Most tunnels have been daylighted or bypassed, but trains still roll through Tunnels 22 and 24 and across the long high bridge between them at Nemo, Tennessee.

Highlighting this video is a few minutes of train action on the connecting Kentucky & Tennessee Railway, an old time short line, and the affiliated Big South Fork Scenic Railway at Stearns, Kentucky. Enjoy vintage steam scenes on the K&T!

Take a cab ride in the Big South Fork train, pulled by an Alco S-1 equipped with a steam Whistle! We also visit a now defunct partially reconstructed coal mine.

Approx. 55 Minutes

NS vol4...
Visit the coal mountains of West Virginia with Green Frog photographer Rich Scheid, beginning in Blue Field, West Virginia, and working north through Mayberry, Switch Back, Elkhorn, Kyle, Northfork, Keystone, Kimball, Superior, Welch, and Roderfield.

This trip takes us through the many moods of the fall season and through the small coal towns of West Virginia. Coal is the thriving commodity of the area, and the livelihood of its residents. Just as in days past of the Norfolk & Western, the Norfolk Southern continues to battle the steep grades of the West Virginia mountains.

NS vol5...
In Part 2 of our series on the Pocahontas Division we continue our visit through the coal mountains of West Virginia. Green Frog's professional railroad photographer, Rich Scheid captures the action at Roderfield and then continues northwest through Iaeger.
We'll see a coal mine located between Matewan and Williamson, flood loading a coal train. Then we'll continue on to Williamson where we visit the yard facility and car shops, and see cars being turned on the turntable.

Next we continue our trek northwest through Chattaroy, Borderland, Nolan, Naugatuck, Kermit, Glen Hayes, Prichard and finally over the Ohio River at Kenova. The beautiful Fall colors and fast paced action accentuate this exciting program!
