THE EAST BROAD TOP-For over 25 years, Emery Gulash set about to record activities on the EBT Railroad. His coverage starts in the early 50’s and begins well before the EBT was a tourist railroad. Only one visit to the EBT is enough to realize how special this National Historic Landmark really is.
The EBT is one of the very few places in North America where one can still see steam powered action AND railroad history virtually untouched by time. With bright, crisp 16mm film, and all in color, Emery caught all the action from the early 50’s through two Winter Spectaculars in the 70’s.
You will see freight and passenger action, double headers and even triple headers as they work their way up and down the line. RUN TIME - 120 Minutes--Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo
3 EPISODES- 1 VIDEO COMBO
Switchin’ Along The Rio Grande-This DVD covers activity on all the then operating Rio Grande Narrow Gauge such as Alamosa, Chama, Antonito, Durango, and may locations on the line, including Pagosa Springs and the Farmington branch. Filmed in 16mm color...
Twilight Of The Rio Grande-In the late 60’s, Emery was able to produce spectacular full-color history of one of the most famous narrow gauge operations in the U.S. Coverage includes single and double headed operations between Alamosa and Silverton, including Antonito, Cumbres, Chama and Durango. Also included are many rare shots of Pagosa Springs and the Farmington branch...
Worktrain To Silverton-In the late 60’s, Emery Gulash, spent a considerable amount of time recording the history of Denver & Rio Grande Narrow Gauge before the abandonment of freight operations. Shot in 16mm color, “worktrain” will grab your attention from beginning to end. The action covers a train of drop bottom gons headed by a class K-28 Mike as it works its way between Durango and Silverton and return.
The train starts out early in the morning, ahead of the Silverton passenger runs. The crisp golden colors of early morning portray a warmness seldom seen in railroading. The train is followed through the day as it switches at Hermosa, Silverton and interfaces with the Silverton passenger runs. RUN TIME - 1 Hr. 20 Minutes--Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo
ROTARY ON THE RIO GRANDE-In 1975 and 1976 the Cumbres and Toltec fired up Rio Grande Rotary OM. These two snow plow adventures run out of Chama during the late winter and inspired many to chase and photograph the events. But none covered it as well as noted photographer, Emery Gulash.
In this DVD you will witness the re-creation of the Rio Grande snow trains made famous in the history of the narrow gauge line: bucking snow drifts, backing up and hitting‘er hard again to break the packed snow, powerful showers of snow flinging out the snow chute and burying anything in the snow showers path.
Emery captured some of the most beautiful snow scenes ever filmed on Colorado narrow gauge. Locos 492 (a class K-37), 487 and 483 (class K-36’s) do the honors in this film. This DVD depicts the roughest, toughest work the Rio Grande had to endure, and you will want to watch every minute of it over and over to appreciate the effort that went in to keeping the lines open during the winter seasons. RUN TIME - 70 Minutes--Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo
THE CHAMA TURN-Railroaders called it “The Chama Turn”, and sometimes the Cumbres Turn. Most railfans knew the operations over Cumbres simply as the Cumbres Pass route.
In the mid 60’s, noted photographer Emery Gulash brought his 16mm Bolex to Colorado to capture all the nuances of Colorado Rocky Mountain railroading at its best. His keen eye for composition, his patience for waiting just for the right shot, plus his dedicated railfan attitude now provide us with exquisite remembrances of that which was narrow gauge.
Many “turns” out of Chama are shown, as well as runs to Antonito. Classic photography from one of the great masters of the motion picture camera are depicted in this amazing production. RUN TIME - 60 Minutes--Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo
