Norfolk Southern’s Lafayette District extends from Peru, Indiana to Decatur, Illinois. In Norfolk Southern, a Tour of the Thoroughbred Volume 10, we take a look at the eastern half of this line, between Peru and Lafayette.
We begin at the crew change point in Peru. This line was originally the automotive artery of the Wabash Railroad. Now operated by Norfolk Southern, this line is still of vital importance to NS.
Watch Nickel Plate Berkshire number 765 leading an excursion between Fort Wayne and Lafayette. NS ran two excursions of this nature, one in 2013, and one in 2015, and we’ll catch this unique run at a variety of locations throughout this program. See many different run-bys and locations with a variety of name power - plus several Triple Crown trains on the former Wabash mainline.
See the TP&W/NS interchange, Transco rail-car repair track geometry train 904, and more. Typical great photography, composition, and audio from Chris Wehman, put together with scenes gathered over recent years.
