Follow Tony Dobbs as we tour the Louisville, Ky. and Southern Indiana area around the 2009 and 2010 time frame.
Louisville, Ky. and Southern Indiana were once served by several railroads including the Louisville and Nashville, Monon, K&IT, Illinois Central, Southern, B&O, C&O, New York Central and the Pennsy. Today they are served by CSX, RJ Corman, NS, Paducah and Louisville, Louisville & Indiana, and the Southern Indiana Railroad during this time.
We start off on River Road in Louisville at Nugent Sand as RJ Corman’s sand train (Z543) switches to get his train together to head north. This is the former site of the Kentucky Railway Museum which now resides in New Haven, Ky. on the former L&N Lebanon Branch. This is also the location that L&N 152 was towed too when she was originally donated to the club. Currently, this is the location of Nugent sand which loads gondolas, and then they are shipped to Lexington, KY. via the C&O’s Old Road sub for unloading at RJ Corman's yard, the former L&N yard.
This train will traverse a portion of the former L&N’s water street lead, then head onto the LCL or short line at the former location of L&N’s MN tower for a short distance along Frankfort Ave, then it switches onto the former C&O’s Old Road Sub at the former L&N’s HK tower in Anchorage, Ky.
