Split by the Ohio river this area was once served by such fallen flags as Southern, K&IT, the IC, C&O, B&O, NYC, Pennsy, Louisville and Nashville and the Monon. Today the main contenders are NS and CSX.
The area is also served by RJ Corman, Paducah and Louisville, Southern Indiana Railroad and the Louisville and Indiana railroad.
