In June 1996 while daylight hours are the longest, Terry Lewis and a friend headed out on a rail-fan trip. First stop was CSX at Sand Patch, then on to Mance and it's Horseshoe Curve. Next along Wills Creek on the East Slope, Hyndman and Cumberland. At Cumberland we visit the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad.
Next we move on to catch Conrail around the famous Horseshoe Curve, Altoona, Cassandra, Gallitzin Tunnels, Summerhill, Lilly and Johnstown where action was non-stop.
On our way back home we stopped by Berea Ohio while Conrail was still the only rail line through town. After that we stopped by Bellevue Ohio to check out the NS hump facility in action, and finally on to Marion Ohio where Conrail, CSX and NS all cross at the Marion Union Station.
