Dennis Jenko left the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad in 1988, after 20 years as a locomotive engineer. His post-railroad plan was to find a place in commercial photography, and one of the possibilities was producing train videos. In 1990 Dennis purchased a professional camcorder and began to capture all his favorite railroads. Living in the Chicagoland area he could film Santa Fe, BN, CCP, “his” CNW, WC, Soo and others. Dennis has always been a huge fan of noted RR film photographer Emery Gulash (his first train DVD was Santa Fe Odyssey Vol-1) so to follow in Emery’s footsteps is exciting and humbling. We hope you will enjoy this Classic Santa Fe footage from the early 1990’s.
In this first of a new series of Santa Fe Odyssey, join Dennis as he railfans many of Emery Gulash’s favorite locations, and those of his own too. Watch main line action at Willow Springs, Burr Ridge, Romeoville, and Joliet. A trip to Arizona to photograph trains around Flagstaff and Canyon Diablo includes a Santa Fe track-gang changing a broken rail and performing two thermite welds, fire in the hole! Santa Fe action in the beauty of Northern Arizona is not to be missed.
