Green Frog Productions visited this premier train watching location on three different occasions, October of 2017 and June and July of 2018.
Muncie provides the rail enthusiast with both heavy CSX and Norfolk-Southern traffic. The CSX Line is the mainline between St. Louis and Cleveland.
The Norfolk-Southern line sees traffic from Cincinnati to Ft. Wayne. To a lesser degree, trains also enter from Frankfort and Marion Indiana to the West and Lima Ohio to the East.
CSX has placed new warning signs along their mainline track of more frequent and longer trains at their road crossings. We certainly found this to be so on our visits to Muncie. As depicted in this video you’ll see some trains that are as long as 2-3 miles. Most of the street crossings in Muncie have been blocked off. There are only 4 crossings at grade and one street ducks under the CSX and NS trackage.
Freight traffic at this location consisted of ethanol, grain, auto racks, auto parts, stack and general merchandise trains. To give the viewer additional viewing perspectives, awesome aerial and ground camera footage was used in the making of this program.
Locomotives from CN, CP, and Kansas City Southern make cameo appearances.
Bonus Contentincludes virtual flyovers created in Google Earth of our main photographic locations in the city of Muncie.
