Illinois Junctions-2 continues the tradition of Illinois Junctions as we visit several locations in this state known for its rail activity.
The primary locations are Woodland Junction, Danville, Effingham, and Centralia, plus we make extra short visits to Chenoa and Odin.
At Woodland Junction, south of Watseka, we see joint trackage of Union Pacific and CSX, and the two lines split about as UP heads to St Louis, and CSX toward Evansville from Chicago. At Danville we see the CSX Chicago-Evansville line cross the Norfolk Southern's busy line from Ft. Wayne to Decatur.
At Effingham, we see the CSX line from Indianapolis to St. Louis cross the former Illinois Central, which is now Canadian National. Centralia hosts three railroads - BNSF, Norfolk Southern, and Canadian National. Brief looks at Odin and Chenoa feature CSX at Odin, and Amtrak.
You will see a good of variety of motive power, and train types. Besides the railroads mentioned, see merged names such as Conrail, Cotton Belt, Southern Pacific, Grand Trunk, and leased units. You will also see Amtrak trains at 3 different locations, and a switching segment with an elderly BNSF unit. Get ready for variety & action galore in Illinois Junctions Vol-2.
