Rochelle Illinois is one of the great train watching spots in America with the Union Pacific (Former CNW), and BNSF (former Burlington) crossing on a double-track diamond. There are approximately 100 trains a day through Rochelle and with so many enthusiasts, they decided to build the first Railfan Park which is located near the diamond.
Our program shows you a typical day in Rochelle as we see every train movement in a little over 12 hours during daylight. In this program you also get a bonus, we show you an extra day in Rochelle with about 60 minutes of extra footage. In addition we have two cameras so if one moves the other gets the train, and in some cases, provides a second shot of that train in a different part of town.
All types of trains are seen from inter-modal to coal, mixed, and locals. There are many times when two trains are seen in the same frame. We will watch both Union Pacific and BNSF locals do some switching, and we will see some track equipment, including a run through town by the Loram Rail Grinder which is explained in detail.
See locomotives from several other railroads mixed with the home railroads which also provides a good variety. In addition to current operations in 2003, we will take you back 10 years to a 1993 visit and see some Chicago and Northwestern, and Burlington Northern at the Diamond.
There is nonstop action at this Illinois Railroad Hot Spot...
