Cincinnati Ohio is home to a diverse group of short line railroads. In Part II of our Cincinnati Shortlines series we will cover the Indiana & Ohio’s Midland Subdivision.
The railroad begins at NA Tower in Ivorydale and heads northeast towards Midland City and Columbus Ohio. The Marietta & Cincinnati Railroad started construction on the line in 1851 though the railroad was purchased by the B&O in 1882. Through trains ceased to operate east of Midland City in 1985 and the line east of Greenfield was abandoned shortly thereafter.
Chessie System and later CSX, kept the line open to Columbus via Washington Court House. In October of 2004, CSX leased the Midland Subdivision to the Indiana & Ohio which has been operating the line ever since.
In this program we’ll see a variety of I&O freight action between NA Tower in Ivorydale and the Junction with the I&O’s Greenfield Sub. at Midland City. Don’t miss this exciting program!
