Two Part program - Part One deals with the CSX/UP Joint line between Beecher and Woodland Jct. ILL. The time period is August of 2017 and the action is captured at Beecher, Grant Park, Momence, Watseka, and Woodland Jct. Next we jump farther south and film the other CSX/UP Joint Line between Altamont and St. Elmo Illinois. This joint line consists of five miles of track where the UP Line between Chicago and points south runs side by side with the CSX Line between Indianapolis and St. Louis. You’ll see a good mix of CSX and UP trains on this five mile strip. Part one contains both ground and aerial footage.
The second part of this program was captured in 1993 by videographer Terry Lewis. First up you’ll see many trains at St. Elmo. It’s the summer of 1993 and the Mississippi River has over-flowed its banks and flooded much of the Midwest. Flooded tracks south of East St. Louis have forced several UP and SP trains to detour using Conrail tracks from St. Louis east to St. Elmo.
You’ll witness many run-around train moves as the power is removed from the head end and then placed on the rear of the train. This permitted trains heading East from St. Louis to change direction and head South at St. Elmo. Locos from Conrail, Chicago Northwestern, Southern Pacific and Cotton Belt make cameo appearances.
Next Terry visits Woodland Jct . You’ll see both early CSX and UP power as well as SOO Line and Seaboard power.
