Union Pacific 4-8-8-4 “Big Boy” number 4014 is making its first tour in May of 2019. Our video “Big Boy 4014 West”, covers the first runs of the newly restored locomotive from Cheyenne, Wyoming as it travels to Ogden, Utah over several days.
The trip is to help commemorate the 150th anniversary of the joining of the transcontinental Railroad at Promontory, Utah on May 10, 1869. We enjoy the first run of 4014 on a May 2, 2019 break-in run, followed by the trip to Ogden between May 4th and May 8th.
We also see the 4014 and 844 nose to nose at Ogden on May 9th, and some of the ceremony at Promontory on May 10th. Plus we have also included footage taken on May 12th of the eastbound move between Ogden and Evanston, which was the very first excursion train for 4014.
Enjoy scenes of the largest active steam engine in the world, double-heading with 4-8-4 #844 and multi-camera coverage of this first Big Boy tour.
