We capture heavy Norfolk Southern action around the Altoona, Pa. area during Altoona Railfest Weekend in 2002. The stars of the show are Bennett Levin’s Pennsylvania Railroad E8’s. They are seen running trains for the Railfest over Horse Shoe Curve. The E8’s are resplendent in their Tuscan Red paint and solid striping with their large PRR lettering. Their throaty 567 prime movers make for a nostalgic sound. You will see several movements of these special trains complete with amfleet coaches and private cars.
In addition, you will see many NS freights with a huge variety of motive power including many still in Conrail blue. You will also hear many Conrail patented Leslie RS3L horns which are pretty rare these days. You will also see huge Amtrak trains as they were heavy into roadrailers at this time.
Altoona Railfest 2002 was one of the best with these PRR heritage trains, plus the usual heavy freight action. Many of these locomotive types are gone or seldom seen today.
Don’t miss this action packed video tour of Altoona Railfest excursions and more in 2002
