In 1965, the last of the Rocky Mountain Railroad Club's tours of the Rio Grande narrow gauge took place. The club arranged for a passenger train trip from Alamosa to Silverton, on the Northern end.
Emery Gulash purchased a round trip ticket on the train, and then proceeded to chase the train across the Colorado and New Mexico countryside from Alamosa to Durango and back. This was the last passenger train run on this line, in 1969 the Rio Grande abandoned the narrow gauge.
See all the favorite narrow gauge locations, such as Pagosa Junction (Gato), Ignacio, Monero, Lumberton, Dulce and of course Alamosa, Chama and Durango. The countryside in between was beautifully captured by Emery's 16mm Bolex camera's on 16 mm film.
Many rare angles in this film had never been shown by any photographer at this point in time. Locos captured are numbers 483 a K-36 class, 498 a class K-37 as helper and K-28 473 which pulls the train back from Alamosa after the trip.
